UCC-APC Welcomes Canada’s Deployment of Special Forces to Ukraine
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Alberta Provincial Council (UCC-APC) welcomes the Canadian Government’s decision to deploy special forces operators to Ukraine. “We commend the Government for taking this bold step and standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine,” said Orysia Boychuk, President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – APC umbrella organization which represents 350,000 Albertans of Ukrainian origin. The deployment of a small contingent from the Canadian Special Operations Regiment comes as diplomatic talks aimed at staving off an armed conflict in Ukraine have faltered, and an estimated 100,000 Russian troops remain camped on Ukraine’s border. “In the face of Russian aggression, Ukraine needs all the military assistance it can get. We hope that Canada is an example for our other allies to follow,” added Boychuk. The UCC-APC President also applauded Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly’s reaffirmation of Canada’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during her meetings with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna in Kyiv, January 17. We ask Albertans to share their photo on the social media on January 22 using hashtag #StandWithUkraine to demonstrate their support for Ukraine. Orysia Boychuk, states that Albertan’s along with the rest of Canada need to pay attention to Russian aggression on Ukraine as it seeks to colonize Ukraine. President Putin’s behaviour is unprecedented and may have implications for the rest of Europe and the world. |
